Why the Huawei P20 Pro is a real pro

14.06.2018

It has finally happened. With the new P20 Pro, Huawei has caught up with the Apple, Samsung and Google flagships. And what is more, with its downright stunning camera and its 48-hour action radius it even gets the better of some of them.

The Huawei P20 Pro’s luxurious appearance is certainly a match for the likes of the iPhone X, Samsung Galaxy S9 or Google Pixel 2, but it doesn’t just look good, it isgood. Take a look at it in our hardware catalogue

Among the best cameras on the market

To come straight to the point, the P20 Pro’s camera is one of the best in any smartphone at the moment. The P20 Pro actually has three cameras working together in an ingenious way to guarantee the best possible picture quality. The 20 megapixel monochrome camera is made in a way that absorbs as much light as possible. A 40 megapixel RGB sensor captures the colours and the third 8 megapixel camera with telephoto lens delivers a 3x optical zoom without any loss of quality. Combined with the digital zoom, 5x magnification still gives some nice results. The lenses of all three cameras are made by the famous German camera and lens manufacturer, Leica. The entire camera is controlled by an AI system that offers extra stabilisation against motion blur and controls the final display with scene recognition. The Huawei P20 Pro has an excellent High Dynamic Range (HDR), so very light and very dark sections really come into view with this digital camera. The results are images with a sharpness, contrast and colour that are most certainly in the iPhone and Galaxy league.

Two days without charging

A second area where the Huawei P20 Pro distinguishes itself is its battery life. Two days of normal use is the standard. This means 48 hours of meetings, presentations, phone calls, emails, WhatsApp messages, uploads and downloads. The 5V 2A charger will charge the 4000 mAh lithium-ion battery in just over two hours. After 30 minutes – just about the time it takes to attend a “no-phones meeting” – it will have almost hit 50%.

Stylish design

As we mentioned before, the Huawei P20 Pro is certainly one of the big flagships. It has glass panels on the front and back with an aluminium edge. All its corners and edges are rounded and the near-edge-to-edge screen with 18.7:9 aspect ratio is nicely curved with a fashionable notch hiding the front camera. This sophisticated device is definitely something to be proud of in front of your colleagues and business associates.

Strong alternative

The Huawei P20 Pro has everything you would expect from a premium smartphone under the hood: Android 8.1 with Dual SIM and a dedicated AI chip with learning capabilities thanks to the neural processing unit. It packs a substantial working memory of 6 GB of RAM and gives the user 128 GB of data space.

If you are getting a bit tired of the existing flagships or if their prices are a deterrent, the latest Huawei is a perfect alternative in terms of design, performance and economics.

And for those who can’t help themselves, its 24 megapixel front-facing camera is perfect for amazing selfies.

Let the video convince you.
