Galaxy Xcover4S. Samsung updates workhorse phone

For years the Galaxy Xcover4 has been the go-to model on construction sites, in industry, in trucks and wherever else impact-resistant devices are needed. 'Xcover' means that the phone is resistant to water, shocks and falls. That is the most important difference with the slimmer devices in the Samsung S and A families. 

Galaxy now has an update: the Xcover4S. Nothing has changed in terms of the phone’s sturdy appearance, but inside, its memory, processor and camera have all been upgraded. The result is an affordable, robust smartphone that’s up for any job. 

A smartphone to go with overalls

The Xcover4S is built to be used on-site. It is IP68-certified, which means it’s dust and waterproof (for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 metres). It’s also MIL-STD-810-certified. This is the military standard for withstanding extreme temperatures, intense UV radiation, salt, dust, harsh weather conditions and mechanical shocks and vibrations. There’s no two ways about it: the Xcover4S is up for hard work.

The Xcover4S has the same indestructible look. But inside? There’s some fancy technology.The internal memory was increased from 16 GB to 32 GB and the RAM went up from 2 GB to 3 GB. The device has a 16 MP camera and a 5 MP frontal camera. The 4 x 1.4 GHz Quad-core processor was replaced with a new, faster Octa-core with 2 x 1.6 GHz plus 6 x 1.6 GHz. Another improvement is that it runs on Android 9 Pie instead of 7 Nougat.

Security is a priority

Samsung is introducing the Galaxy Xcover4S Enterprise Edition with significant security guarantees. For the next four years, it comes with security and firmware updates, a Knox Configure licence – the management and security software for mobile devices Gartner applauds – and E-FOTA for wireless firmware installation. Samsung also guarantees the smartphone will be available for two years.
