A more resistant smartphone

Need a smartphone or a tablet on the move or on a construction site? You probably know that most mobile devices are not suited for that purpose. But ruggedised devices are.

What's a ruggedised device?

Most devices are extremely fragile: they are not resistant to humidity, dust, extreme temperatures and shocks. Ruggedised (reinforced) devices have been designed to withstand extreme conditions, ideal for rougher use, especially on construction sites or in factories.

What are these devices protected against?

The degree of protection of a ruggedised device is indicated by the IP code consisting of two digits. The first digit indicates the degree of protection against accidental contact and foreign bodies: from 0 (no protection) to 6 (dust-tight). The second digit indicates the degree of protection against humidity: from 0 (no protection) to 9 (usable at 90% humidity rate or protected against high pressure immersion). So, an IP68 device is dust-proof and waterproof.

What devices are resistant against all elements?

Ruggedised mobile devices are shock-resistant. They come in all sorts of sizes and price categories. The Orange Hapi 50 is a good entry-level model. Thanks to its robust design, it is resistant to shocks, water and dust. If you are looking for something more sophisticated, the Crosscall SPIDER-X4 may be the right option for you: this highly portable device has a new 2MP camera and a 3G + connection. It is suitable for anyone who is looking for a compact high-performance mobile. If you prefer a sturdy but more refined design, you may opt for the Samsung Galaxy Xcover4 with an ergonomic anti-slip finish. Perhaps you are looking for a shock-resistant tablet? In that case, make sure to consider the Samsung's Galaxy Tab Active. All these devices meet the IP67 standard: their housing is fully protected against dust and they can be submerged in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.
