Hello 5G

Ready for 5G!

Orange Belgium continually invests in its mobile network to provide high-quality services and be at the forefront of technology.

Orange is completely renewing its 4G network and gradually rolling out 5G, providing new opportunities to businesses.

Our ambition:

To give you access to the latest technologies to ensure high-quality communication and a reliable broadband connection.

With the help of 5G technology, you will be able to discover new opportunities for your business.

Good news!

Business customers can already discover 5G through their subscriptions. Today, it is also possible to go further and discover an optimal 5G experience thanks to the new Premium data option which offers you more data and high-speed surfing speeds.

What are the benefits of 5G?

Greater responsiveness

5G makes connectivity extremely stable and reliable thanks to extremely low latency It also allows you to dedicate a section of the network to a specific customer to ensure seamless connectivity (for example: for medical services or for autonomous vehicles).

Even greater speed

This new mobile generation enables the exchange of data at ultra-high speeds, up to 3 times faster than 4G. For example, 5G helps to optimise collaborative work by providing a high-speed exchange of large files and high-quality video conferencing calls.

More connected objects

5G also enables billions of connected objects to be connected and ensures their simultaneous operation.
5G introduces multiple opportunities for transformation, fuelling innovation in the heart of companies.

New experiences

5G will enable the development of many new services, applications and uses in various sectors such as transport (autonomous vehicles), energy (smart grids) and healthcare (connected ambulances).
5G will enable access to new emerging technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) that will be accessible on the move.

Over time, 5G technology will enable companies to accelerate their digital transformation, innovate, and improve the customer experience.

5G revolution in businesses

5G is the multiplier of several emerging technologies, like augmented reality and artificial intelligence. It has become a pioneer’s tool for inventing and realizing new and revolutionary applications, and for improving customer experience. The use cases below are already operational on 4G, but 5G will ensure that these new technologies mature and increase user experience.

Access to 5G is simple. You need:

A business tariff plan

At Orange, nothing could be easier: business customers with a 4G tariff can already discover 5G at no additional cost.

From now on, it is also possible to discover an optimal 5G experience thanks to the Premium Data option which will allow you to take full advantage of the high-speed speeds of 5G with moreover more mobile data. Be inspired by our use cases.

A 5G ready smartphone as well as 5G coverage are also necessary in order to surf on the Orange 5G network.

A 5G compatible or 5G Ready smartphone

All 5G smartphones must first be tested and certified on our 5G network to ensure they are working properly.

A 5G network

Orange Belgium is gradually rolling out its 5G network, as was the case with 4G. .

The regulatory context for offering 5G differs between the 3 regions: Flanders, Wallonia and the Brussels region. That is why we are beginning to roll out this network of the future in Flanders, where emissions standards (EMF) have already been adapted to allow us to offer 5G.

5G coverage is already present in the cities of Antwerp, Ghent and on the Belgian Coast. The cities of Leuven and Bruges will be covered by the end of the year.

Do you already have a 5G smartphone? Check if it's 5G ready.

*Please note that not all 5G smartphones available from our competitors or abroad can be certified as compatible with our 5G network.

Over the next few weeks, 5G smartphones will be gradually updated to give you access to 5G.

Does 5G have any impact on health?

The launch of 5G is raising legitimate questions among the public, particularly regarding its impact on health. There are over 20,000 studies that have been conducted over the past 20 years on the dangers of exposure to electromagnetic waves. No medical study has shown a negative impact of waves on health.

Moreover, specifically for the launch of 5G in Belgium, when frequencies are allocated, they will be using frequency bands that have been used for decades for domestic applications such as radio, television and ... WiFi.

Finally, it should be noted that the Belgian regulation on emission standards - the level of emission power allowed for antennas - is one of the most restrictive in the world, 10 times more restrictive than the recommendations of the WHO (World Health Organisation).

Orange Belgium naturally complies with all applicable regulations for existing technologies and will continue to do so when launching each new technology.

For more information, please visit the page on this subject on the Agoria website (in French), the federation of technology companies.

What about the environment?

In a context of increasing data volumes, 5G will provide more capacity where it is needed, with much higher data rates than 4G. This new technology will also ensure that energy consumption increases by far less than if the 4G network had to be upgraded to carry the same traffic.
And unlike previous generations of mobile networks, 5G has taken energy consumption into account from the very beginning. The Orange Group, which has been involved in defining the 5G standard, has insisted from the outset that every effort should be made to achieve energy savings.

This is why network equipment suppliers have worked on the energy performance of 5G antennas, which are much more efficient. And this is true as soon as traffic increases, because they are capable of handling higher bandwidths than 4G antennas. They therefore deliver a higher flow rate, allowing more users to be served simultaneously.

In an unloaded network, a 5G antenna initially consumes more power than a 4G antenna. But its energy efficiency is gradually increasing as it is deployed, traffic increases and equipment is enhanced.
