Jens De Vos is Director of Projects at Voka, Flanders’ largest network for entrepreneurs. His team of 12 coordinates initiatives for companies, ranging from start-up support and sustainability to international growth. That global focus regularly takes him abroad, which is how he discovered how simple seamless connectivity can be.

Projects across borders

Voka supports entrepreneurs through hands-on projects that respond to current needs. De Vos shares an example: “A few years ago, we travelled to Austria to exchange ideas with our colleagues at the Chamber of Commerce in Graz. They had set up innovative talent centres to guide young people in their study choices. Alongside cognitive tests, they also use motor skills assessments and even virtual reality tools. We found that approach inspiring and decided to introduce it in Flanders. We started with one test centre. Today, we have 10: six permanent and four mobile.”

International inspiration means international travel. Two to three times a year, De Vos boards a plane for conferences and networking events around the world. A reliable mobile connection is essential each time.

“I’m not much of a tech expert,” he says with a smile. “My children, who are in their 20s, understand it better than I do. I often ask them or our IT team for help. Personally, I just want it to work without having to think about it.” 

Staying connected without hassle 

Last year, when De Vos travelled to New York for a sustainability project at the United Nations, Voka had just switched to Orange Business. “Our IT manager asked whether roaming could be made easier. With our previous provider, you needed an extra SIM card outside Europe and had to swap it manually every time.”

With Orange Business, that changed. “Our IT department activated the roaming option online. I didn’t have to do anything myself. I switched my phone back on after landing and it worked immediately. While others were still changing SIM cards, I was already connected as if I were in Belgium.”

Several of his colleagues have since used the same roaming solution. “Our Director of Alliances, Patrice Bakeroot, recently travelled to Australia,” De Vos says. “The experience was just as smooth there. What used to be a concern has now become effortless.”
