What is RCS?
RCS (Rich Communication Services) is an advanced messaging service that offers more features than standard SMS and MMS, such as read receipts, group chats, and high-resolution photo sharing.
Available on Android smartphones and iPhones, it enables seamless communication between the two platforms and devices.
What do the colors of your messages mean on iPhone?
The color of your messages indicates the type of message sent:
- Blue: iMessage via Apple, between two Apple devices.
- Green: SMS, MMS, or RCS message. Messages sent from an iPhone to an Android smartphone always appear in green.
Seeing a green message when you were expecting a blue one? There could be several reasons:
- The recipient doesn't have an Apple device.
- iMessage is disabled on your device or the recipient's device.
- iMessage is temporarily unavailable.
- You may need to update your Messages settings after setting up a new device.
How do I set up and use RCS messages?
Orange makes it easy by automatically enabling RCS for you.
You can also set it up manually:
Android:
- Open Google Messages.
- Tap your profile picture or initial in the top right corner > Message settings > RCS chats.
- Turn RCS chats on or off.
Good to know:
Starting in July 2026, Samsung Messages will no longer be supported. To continue using SMS and RCS messaging, you'll need to switch to Google Messages as your default messaging app.

What is the cost of using RCS?
- Mobile data (4G/5G): RCS uses your included data plan in Belgium and the EU. Outside the EU, roaming charges apply.
- Wi-Fi: Use is free.
