Testimonials Postbar now serves coffee with secure Wi-Fi
At the end of 2019, Tine Vandenbon created Postbar, a unique place in Bruges where coffee and mail come together. In addition to enjoying a cup of coffee or a slice of cake, visitors can browse and send greeting cards on the spot. This welcoming concept has made Postbar a beloved destination for both locals and tourists.
“I don’t really see my business as hospitality,” says Tine. “It feels more like moving from one living room to another, where I make coffee for all my friends.”
A risk not to be underestimated
For years, Tine didn’t offer Wi-Fi in her café, but she occasionally shared her own Wi-Fi network with regular customers. Without realising it, she was putting herself at risk. Her cash register system was connected to that business network, and sensitive business data was stored through it.
“I was always very naïve about it,” she admits. “I’m absolutely not digitally minded. Only now do I realise the risks involved. It’s a huge relief that there’s now another solution, which was installed very easily.”
I thought a Wi-Fi network like this would take a lot of effort, but the opposite is true.Tine Vandenbon
One modem, two networks, zero worries
That solution came in the form of a dual Wi-Fi network. At Orange Business, the Wi-Fi is always split into two separate networks on one modem. The private network safely keeps the cash register, telephony and internal systems protected. Alongside that, there is a completely separate network for customers or guests. With Orange Business, both networks are always included as standard in the package, at no extra cost.
“These days, customers almost always check whether there is Wi-Fi. Now they immediately see Postbar Guest appear on their device. That already says enough,” Tine explains. “For now, they can find the password at the counter, but during the next menu redesign I will also include it there. That means I don’t have to worry about it, while still enjoying the benefits. For example, I notice that customers share photos of Postbar more often on social media now, because they can use the fast Wi-Fi while they’re here.”
Installation without interruption
The fact that Tine doesn’t have to do anything to benefit from this safer solution is a plus point. “As a small business owner, I’m busy enough as it is. I used to think a Wi-Fi network like this would take a lot of time and effort to set up, but the opposite turned out to be true. They had it installed for me in barely five minutes.
“I don’t easily hand things over, but this really was a good decision,” she says. “Everything runs automatically, without costing me anything extra. I really should have done this much sooner.”
Postbar is a popular coffee bar on Langestraat in Bruges. Since 2019, owner Tine Vandenbon has combined coffee, tea and sweet treats with a shop full of original greetings cards. Customers choose a card, write it on site and Postbar mails it for them on a chosen date.
