Focus on security and business continuity

19.07.2024

Orange Belgium aims to support companies in the most efficient way, with security and business continuity as two important pillars. We are the only ICT and telecoms partner to achieve two ISO standards, proving that these are not empty promises at Orange.

Today, security and business continuity are cornerstones of any business strategy. This is true for Orange Belgium, both in our internal operations and in our service to our customers. By preparing for the ISO 27001 and 22301 standards, and being the only Belgian ICT and telecoms partner to have so far achieved them, we are proving that these are more than just words for us.

What is ISO 27001?

ISO 27001 is the international standard for information security. It specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continuously improving an information security management system (ISMS). The purpose of ISO 27001 is to help businesses protect the confidentiality and integrity of their data.

By implementing an ISMS according to ISO 27001, we can identify and limit potential security risks more quickly, ensuring that sensitive customer data and business information are better protected from cyber threats and data breaches. Customers can be confident that their information is safe. Moreover, achieving ISO 27001 ensures that Orange Belgium is compliant with all legal and regulatory requirements on data protection, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What is ISO 22301?

ISO 22301 is the international certification for business continuity management. This standard targets the establishment, implementation, operation, monitoring, maintenance and continuous improvement of a documented management system. The goal is to safeguard the operational continuity of a business and ensure an effective response in the event of a technical, economic, social or environmental incident.

By achieving this standard, Orange Belgium is able to identify and manage business risks. It means our applications and services continue to operate as usual, even during outages. This allows us to offer our customers reliable support, eliminate unnecessary costs and minimise any downtime.

Industry benchmark

Since March 2024, Orange Belgium has held both certifications, becoming, for now, the only major telecommunications company in the country to achieve both ISO 27001 and ISO 22301. As such, we have set a benchmark for the entire industry. By obtaining ISO certifications, we monitor, evaluate and optimise all our internal activities and systematically ensure the highest standards of information security and business continuity for our customers and partners.

Thomas-Alexander Roger, Business Continuity Manager at Orange Belgium, says: “Overall, this means we have an organisation that can withstand outages while ensuring the highest level of security to protect our information system and therefore our customer data.”

At the same time, our work within the framework of the ISO standards ensures that Orange Belgium meets all the conditions of NIS2, the new European directive on the security of network and information systems. Any company covered by the NIS2 directive now also has the guarantee that it can work with Orange Belgium without being at risk of violating the provisions of that European standard.
