Roaming costs within the EU will disappear

You’ll no longer pay any roaming costs within the EU

From 11 June 2017, roaming costs within the EU will be a thing of the past. From that date onwards, as an Orange client, you’ll be able to call or be called, text, or use mobile internet data anywhere within the EU Zone, just as if you were using your phone in Belgium. This means you’ll use your bundle or be charged at Belgian rates.

Example: You have a company in Kortrijk and your employee regularly goes to Rome. From 11 June 2017, she’ll communicate as if she was in Belgium. First, she’ll use the calling time, texts and mobile data download volume included in her plan. After she reaches the limits of the included volumes, she’ll call, text or use mobile internet data at Belgian rates.

Roaming costs will remain in effect outside the EU and international calling will be calculated outside the bundle.

From 11 June 2017, roaming and international calls will be invoiced with the charge being for the first minute or less of a call (this used to be the first 30 seconds of less and exclusive to Zone 1). After the first minute, charges will be made on a per second basis.

You use the included volumes and discount rates from your plan

Most plans include set volumes of calling time, texts and data downloads every month. From now on, these volumes will also be used for communicating within the EU Zone.

As soon as the included volumes are used up, the Belgian rates from your plan will come into effect

Do your employees often work outside Belgium? Are the data volumes in their roaming options regularly exceeded? With the Travel Data Control service, you keep the costs under control.

  • Limit: When your employees exhaust the data included in the data volume of the plan, they have to pay for the extra data they use. You can limit the amount of data they are able to use. This limit is otherwise set at 50 euro.
  • Warning notifications: Your employees receive free SMS warnings as soon as they reach 80% and 100% of the limit.
  • Automatic blocking: Outside Belgium, the data connection is blocked as soon as your employee exceeds the limit. You can raise this limit in your Client Zone.

The EU Zone is bigger than just the European Union

From 11 June, the former Zone 1 will be known as the “EU Zone”. However, this zone includes more countries than those that currently make up the European Union. Within these countries, you’ll be able to call, text and use mobile internet data at Belgian rates, without any extra costs.

The following countries and regions are part of the EU Zone: Åland Islands (Fin), Austria, Azores (P), Bulgaria, the Canary Islands (E), Ceuta (Spain), Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Guiana, Gibraltar (UK), Greece, Germany, Guadeloupe, Guernsey (UK), Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Isle of Man (UK), Italy, Jersey (UK), Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Madeira (P), Malta, Martinique, Mayotte (F), Monaco (F), the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Réunion (F), Romania, Saint-Bartélemy (F), San Marino, Sint Maarten (NL), Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Vatican City.

To be clear: Switzerland and Andorra fall outside the EU Zone. They are in the Best Destinations zone and Zone 3, respectively.
